An extremely rare George III Scottish Provincial silver Vinaigrette of small rounded rectangular form, with all-over tartan diaper work engraving enclosing a leaf, a plain rectangular vacant cartouche to the lid, cast ornate thumb-pieces to lid and base and a stand-away hinge. The silver gilt grille with thistle engraving and pierced holes.

Marked to the interior lid with makers mark - 'JS' struck twice, and to the interior base with makers mark 'JS' and two other marks. Possibly for James Smith, Aberdeen,c1800.
