An interesting late Victorian Commemorative silver prize Oar, complete with original fitted case engraved with a list of winners from 1895 to 1913. Made to commemorate the Reverend A.F.Sim, the coach for the Rowing Club.

The silk and velvet lined leather case with the following inscription to the interior lid:-
"Sim Challenge Fours"
These Four Oars, together with his Portrait in the Boathouse, and the gift to St John's Church, were subscribed for by Members of The Sunderland Amateur Rowing Club to keep alive the bright memory and holly influence of Rev. A. F. Sim., who by his coaching on the Wear from 1886 to 1894, did much to revive an interest in rowing and to impart life to this club. Sunderland, May 2nd 1896.

The silver Oar realistically modelled with matted decoration and engraved - 'AF Sim' to the blade.
