George V Britannia Standard Scottish Silver 3 Compartment Stamp Box

An extremely fine quality and unusual Scottish Britannia Standard silver Desk Stamp Box with three compartments to the silver gilt interior, shaped hinged lid. The box is fitted with a very rare single knuckle joint (hinge) applied to the box, with a pivoting internal pin to lugs on each end of the lid. The back of the box has a re-enforcing wire which acts as a 'stop' for the lid when open and matches the other wires and lid edge contour. It is also unusual being Scottish.
By 'JG' of Edinburgh, 1926. Probably made by Joseph Gloster of Birmingham, retailed in Edinburgh.
