Rare Scottish Provincial Silver Sauce Label 'Ketsup'
Attributed to JOHN MACKIE, ELLON
c1830
An extremely rare Georgian Scottish Provincial silver Sauce Label of rounded rectangular form with double reeded border, incised for Ketsup (a misspelling of Ketchup).
Makers mark only 'J.M' struck three times, probably for John Mackie, Ellon, c1830.

It is most likely that due to its form & construction this label was made in Birmingham. It could then have been purchased & retailed by John Mackie, a watchmaker. This was often the case with small items ie. wine labels at this period.
