An extremely rare Victorian novelty silver and enamel Vesta Case made in the form of a triangular 'Milestone, with hinged lid and engraved striker to the base. Two sides enamelled with the distances: 'To Ascot 12 Miles' and 'To London 17 miles'.

Made in London in 1887 and retailed by Houghton & Gunn, 162 New Bond Street, London.

Also stamped with a registered design number.

Condition
In good condition with just a few very minor nicks to the sharp edges, the interior with black sulphur deposits.

As far as the location that the piece refers to is concerned it might possibly be Kempton Park Racecourse in Surrey or a train station on the London & South West railway line?
