Silver Skewers

Dating as far back as the Byzantine Greeks, meat has been prepared using skewers for thousands of years. When roasting meat or poultry over an open fire, skewers were used to pierce the meat and hold the meat over the flames to prevent the cook’s hands from burning. Meat skewers have been used all over the world, and we have a number of examples of antique silver skewers made in England, Scotland and Ireland from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We are happy to offer our expert advice on any of the antique items in our collection.
