Pair George III Silver Horseshoe Shaped Labels 'Port' & 'Madeira'
An extremely rare pair of early George III silver Wine Labels, realistically formed as horseshoes with stamped and nielloed simulated nail holes, hand engraved and nielloed titles for Port and Madeira.

By Hester Bateman, London, c1770 - 1775.

It is interesting to note that whilst these labels appear to be a pair, they have two different maker's marks and two different lion passant marks, suggesting they might have been made c1774 - 1775 at the change of the lion passant marks, however the Madeira is stamped with what is generally considered to be Hester Bateman's first mark of 1761.
