19th Century American Gold Cased Patented Combination Dip Pen & Propelling Pencil

				A fine 19th century American gold cased combination Dip Pen and Propelling Pencil, the cylindrical body with bands of engine turned decoration, a plain engine turned slider ring extends the pen, complete with original large Edward Todd No 5 gold nib. The ball finial at the other end is pulled out to extend the handle, which when rotated and pushed back in, extends the propelling pencil.
The mechanism was patented by Joseph Monaghan and Thomas Flynn on December 19, 1871. Edward Todd purchased Kurtz & Monaghan in 1871, renaming it Edward Todd & Co.
