A fine early 19th century French three colour gold Vinaigrette, of rectangular cushion form with raised floral decoration on a matt background to the base and sides. The lid inset with an Italian micromosaic panel depicting a mother hen and her chicks within a grassy landscape with rocks and plants in the foreground. The interior with an intricately pierced grille.

The subject is after a painting by Johann Wenzel Peter (1745-1829) now in the Vatican Museum.

Paris, c1819 - 1838. (Rams head mark - minimum 18 carat gold).
