A very rare and early Victorian novelty silver Sliding Pencil, modelled in the form of a hand with turquoise ring on the index finger, applied and gilded decoration to the cuff. The terminal set with an citine coloured seal stone.

Stamped S Mordan Aug 3 1842 and with registered design number 1390.

These dated hand / gauntlet Pencils along with the percussion pistols (dated 1840) are generally considered to be amongst first novelty silver pencils produced by a Mordan.
