First Period Worcester ""Arabesque Reserve"" Sparrow Beak Cream Jug

Worcester Porcelain First Period Dr. Wall c1765 - 1770
Photo 1 of 4

A pear shaped Cream Jug with very slightly upturned sparrow-beak and grooved loop handle. Two quarter-lobed panels contain Chinese garden scenes. In one, a Chinese figure stands by a fence pointing to a flower. To the figures right is painted a tall rock. The second cartouche is painted with a figure seated by perforated rockwork from which grow leafless twigs and a spindly, leafy tree which overhangs the figure. Between two grassy clumps in the distance a ""pipe-cleaner"" tree is painted. Round the inner rim is painted a hatched and floral panel border.

The very rare ""Arabesque Reserve"" pattern I.A.16.
