George II Provincial Silver Escutcheon Wine Label ' Claret' Jacobite Roses

An extremely rare mid 18th century Provincial silver Wine Label of chased escutcheon form, decorated with flower heads and stems.

By James Lamb Whitehaven, Newcastle, c1750.

It has been suggested that the decoration may represent Jacobite roses. These emblems appear on 18th century Wine Glasses and there were Jacobite supporters in the latter half of the 18th century.

Only two other silver Wine Labels by James Lamb have been recorded.
