George III Antique Silver Escutcheon Wine Label 'Sherry'

James Hyde, London c1780
Photo 1 of 5

An unusual George III 18th century silver Wine Label of escutcheon shape with insignificant engraved lines to simulate drapes, pierced for Sherry.

This design peculiar to the Hydes and dating c1780 - 85 is surprisingly 'crude' and out of period.

See wine Labels 1730 - 2003 by John Salter, figs 534 and 537 and text pages 153 and 154.

By James Hyde, London, c1780.
