George III Provincial Silver Wine Label 'Claret' Back-To-Front Scroll

John Mitchison, Newcastle c1785
Photo 1 of 8

An extremely rare 18th century Provincial silver Wine Label of scroll form with oval cartouche surmount engraved with a crest, feather edge border, incised for CLARET. The crest of a Raven or Chough is that of many families.

Makers mark only, 'I M', probably for John Mitchison, Newcastle, c1785.

This label is also unusual in the fact the scroll is back-to-front, or scrolling up on the left and down on right rather than the more usual reversed configuration.

Sold - £225.00

Condition
In good condition with no damage or repair. Minor surface fault to reverse of cartouche is in the making.
