Gilt Vinaigrette Abbotsford House

TAYLOR & PERRY, Birmingham 1835
Photo 1 of 8

An extremely fine William IV silver gilt “Castle Top” Vinaigrette of rounded rectangular form with raised foliate borders, the base and sides with crisp engine turned decoration and a vacant cartouche, the lid with a chased and engraved view in high relief depicting Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott, from across the river Tweed. The silver gilt interior with finely pierced foliate scroll grill with a flowerhead. Complete with original sponge. This is a rarer view of Abbotsford than the more commonly seen view from the front of the house.
