Photo 1 of 12

An exceptionally fine quality mid 19th century American 14 carat gold combination Sliding Gold Pen and Propelling Pencil with integral telescopic extending mechanism to the shaft. The cylindrical body superbly hand chased with foliate scroll work, the end cap unscrewing to reveal a lead reservoir. The Pen holder complete with John Foley of New York No 5½ gold nib.

The Pen is extended by a simple slider ring and the Pencil extends and repels on a double spiral twist mechanism when a section of the body is twisted. The additional telescopic extension to the length of the piece makes it much easier to write with.
