Provincial Wine Label Claret Crested

A rare 18th century Provincial silver Wine Label of double scroll form with oval cartouche surmount engraved with a crest, feather edge border, incised for CLARET. The crest of a Raven or Chough is that of many families.

Makers mark only, I M, possibly for John Mitchison, Newcastle, c1785.

In good condition with no damage or repair. Minor surface fault to reverse of cartouche is in the making.
