Photo 1 of 14

A very unusual set of three George III silver Wine Labels made in the form of wooden barrels and engraved to simulate the metal straps, incised for Madeira, Port and Sherry.

Curiously by three different maker's over a period of some 40 years.
Madeira by Elizabeth Collier, London, c1765
Sherry by Thomas Hyde, London, c1770
Port by William Parker, London, 1803

All three maker's were based in the Gutter Lane area of the City of London, William Parker at Lillypot Lane, just off Gutter Lane.

See: Wine Labels 1730 - 2003 by John Salter, page 78, where Barrel shaped labels are described as being exceptionally rare.
