A rare antique English silver Wine Label formed from a large boars tusk, the hallmarked silver mounts set with a Victorian silver sixpence, the tusk engraved and niello filled for Brandy.
By Henry William, Dee, London, 1875.
These mounted boars tusk wine labels were generally produced in India from the mid 19th century onwards. They are usually unmarked, but occasionally they can be found with Colonial marks and it is rare to see them with English hallmarks. This example is of a large size and produced by a respected English maker and would have been an expensive commission at the time.
