Rare Georgian Scottish / Colonial Silver Marrow Scoop 'Two Scottish Makers and West Indian Interest'

Francis Howden, Edinburgh 1808
Photo 1 of 6

An extremely unusual George III Scottish silver Marrow Scoop of standard form with twin bowls (one tapering), originally made by Francis Howden of Edinburgh in 1808, but also marked by George Fenwick II of (Edinburgh)Tobago. Additional Retailers mark of Pouch.

George Fenwick II was apprenticed to his father George Fenwick I and in 1820 he emigrated to Tobago. He took pieces of silver made by his father with him and re stamped them with his own mark. It appears that he also took items by other Edinburgh Smiths (in this case Francis Howden). Unfortunately he died in Tobago on the 4th September 1821
