A very fine quality Victorian 16 carat gold mounted double-ended porcelain Scent & Smelling Salts Bottle, the porcelain body with a turquoise ground and raised gilded highlights, superbly painted in polychrome enamels with Butterflies and Insects, including a Red Admiral and Large Copper Butterfly and even a minute Ladybird. One end with a sprung hinged lid with internal sprung glass plate to retain the Salts, the other end with screw-off lid with internal cork for the Scent.

Marked: S.MORDAN & Co to the interior lid, and struck '16' to both caps.
