Victorian Antique Silver Vinaigrette Cape Afrikaans Interest

A very unusual Victorian silver Vinaigrette of shaped rectangular form with crisp engine turned decoration in bands to the base and lid, foliate scroll decoration to the sides. The silver gilt interior with an intricately pierced foliate scroll grille, an asymmetrical cartouche to the lid engraved with a legend in Afrikaans and further inscriptions to the bands of the lid either side of the cartouche.

The text written on either side of the cartouche is:-
"Ik Schent UE deze tergedachtenes van my E.D.
Minnaarris UE Zuster A.G.W. A.W.K. aan R.M.J.W.

The text inside the cartouche reads as follows:-
die Overleden is on haarjeugtige ouder dom van 20 jaaren en 10 maanden ep den avond van den 6 july Kaapstad. 1854. Den.25-7-54.

This roughly translates to:- ""I present/give you this in memory of my E.D. LOVER/HUSBAND my sister A.G.W.A.W.K.....TO R.M.J.W.

The deceased was in her young age of 20 years and 10 months on the evening of 6 July Capetown 1854. Buried on 25 07 54"
