A very rare Victorian 10 carat gold mounted ivory combination "Companion" Propelling Pencil, Pen, Thermometer and Compass. The sliding pen and pencil housed within the plain cylindrical ivory body with inset fully working and calibrated glass mercury thermometer. The gold finial set with a working compass.

Stamped: S Mordan & Co, along with the distinctive 'Mordan arrow mark', indicating 10 carat gold. This was a marketing feature so that Mordan & Co could set themselves above the competition by claiming in their advertising : ""Mordan Pencils made of superior gold"".
