Victorian Novelty Silver Multi Drawer Telescopic Propelling Pencil inside a Thimble

SAMPSON MORDAN & CO, London c1890
Photo 1 of 12

An extremely rare Victorian novelty silver Propelling Pencil with six drawer telescopic action and attached suspension ring, the whole fitting inside a silver thimble when collapsed, a bayonet fitting to secure.

The pencil depends entirely on the taper of each section varying from the next section to create an effective friction fit when extended which will not collapse under writing pressure but only when pushed directly.
