A rare Victorian novelty silver three drawer telescopic Propelling Pencil, made in the form of a Policeman's Bullseye Lantern, the body with a circular domed glass magnifying lens with green foil background. Two hinged carrying handles to the reverse and attached suspension ring. The telescopic pencil pulling out from the base.

Almost certainly made by Sampson Mordan & Co for the Retailer's Walter Thornhill & Co, London c1873.Stamped: Thornhill, and with a diamond registration mark for 23rd October 1873.

This is the smaller of the two known sizes of this pencil, the larger version complete with lead reservoir and rotating body (See: Stock number EBPP100612A).
