Wine Label Brandy Free Trade

SAMPSON MORDAN & CO, London c1835 - 1845
Photo 1 of 6

An extremely rare early Victorian die-stamped silver Wine Label, pierced for Brandy on a scrolled name plate surrounded by a cornucopia over flowing with fruit, wheat sheaves, a rake, a scythe, a sickle and some tied bails, with a banner either side stamped with the word ‘FREE’. This label maybe linked to the repeal of the Corn Laws in 1832, or perhaps to the early moves towards Free Trade in the early Victorian era.

Unmarked, but stamped ‘MORDAN’. For Sampson Mordan, London, c1835 – 1845.
