An extremely scarce 18th century die-stamped Old Sheffield Plate on copper Wine Label, of neo-classical stylised ‘batswing’ form, stamped with fruiting vines and incised for RUM.

After a design by Matthew Boulton, Birmingham c1785. See: ‘Bottle Tickets’ by Jane Stancliffe, a V&A Museum publication, page 46, fig 66. A design listed in the Prints and Drawings catalogue held by the V&A - two volumes of designs for domestic designs and Sheffield Plate, from a pattern-book of pieces made by Matthew Boulton of Birmingham, c.1785. These volumes were gifted to the Museum in 1952 by John Wateridge.
