Christmas Pencils

With the festive season approaching fast I wanted to include some Xmas themed items in this month's Newsletter and I hope that the two Victorian Novelty Silver and Gold Propelling Pencils illustrated above fit the bill! The details are as follows:-

A fine and rare Victorian novelty parcel gilt silver telescopic Propelling Pencil made in the form of a Christmas Cracker with engraved gilded ends and attached suspension ring. Stamped with the retailers mark of Hamilton & Co, of Calcutta, but probably made by Sampson Mordan & Co, c1880.

A fine quality Victorian 9 carat gold (tested) and enamel telescopic Propelling Pencil with attached suspension ring, the body enamelled with a scene depicting a Christmas Robin perched on a holly branch. Stamped with the retailers mark of LUND of Cornhill, London, but probably made by Sampson Mordan c1880.

Featured Item

This month's featured item is a superb large William IV silver gilt Vinaigrette, the cover mounted with a cameo carved with a view of St Peter's Square, Rome, the base heavily engraved with scrolling leaves and two small flower heads with a small central vacant oval cartouche. Foliate borders to cover and base with flower head decorations between the five lugged lugged stand away hinge. Silver gilt grill of two scrolling fronds rising from either side of a bordered flower head at centre base to a central flower head at the top within a decorative border.
